Partnering with another exceptional ministry in 2021! When recalling the gospel lesson shared recently, the scripture is familiar and profound, “as you did for the least of these who are members of my family, so to you did for me.” Just as in the time of Christ, there are many in need of assistance in the form of physical and spiritual aid today. We are excited to announce our plan to expand support to a very special ELCA partner ministry: Outreach for Hope. Over the past 25 years, Outreach for Hope has granted more than $4.4 million to ministries serving urban neighborhoods in Southeastern Wisconsin. In an average week, Outreach for Hope ministry partners serve 2,132 congregants, host 5,754 community members for non-worship purposes, and feed over 5,000 people. By expanding our support, these local ministries can continue to thrive and be a beacon of light for many living in otherwise dire circumstances. Enhancements in 2021 to sustain our digital reach! Thanks to widely available technology, MLC is now streaming worship services and other gatherings directly into our homes. It started with pastor leading the full service with just a laptop, but evolved with pre-arranged choir anthems, live scripture readings and prayers by congregation members, an ‘open mic’ sharing of the peace, and even a baptism. Hosting live worship in this participative way has made all the difference while we find our way through quarantine. MLC has been and will continue to be a leader in creating an online presence. What was first a necessity to continue our ministry will be a perfect amenity for the new normal. We will invest in some additional digital audio/visual equipment to enhance the sanctuary for live streaming when in person events resume. Members, family, and visitors both near and far will be able to enjoy a virtual connection when faced with the many everyday hurdles to joining in person. Inviting someone to church for the first time has never been easier. Sharing the love of Jesus Christ has never been more possible.
